The difference in the top carve between the '52 and the other two is stark - for some reason, Gibson never got it right after 1960.

Those are definitely 3 keepers. The 52’ stands out just because of those P-90’s sweet tone. The 2000 sounds all around solid and in between the other two, but I’m amazed at how chimey and clear the ‘77 sounds in comparison to the other two guitars! Great demo and do yourself a favor by never selling any of those three gems!

The more interviews I listen to with Jimmy, the more I realize how intelligent, eloquent, and a 'master of the craft' he really is. I would love love love if he would create a drumming course/DVD type of thing. He seems to be an honest communicator and has a very detailed way of explaining his methodology.

its absolutely astonishing to me how many famous musicians there were that really became dedicated to playing music at an early age after watching The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. We are talking about big named bands that really ended up changing our lives and the world. I will just name a few but there are SO MANY MORE. Starting with Mike Campbell, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Jackson Browne...the list goes on and on. It's surreal to think that when I watched that show live, future rock stars were sitting watching it at that same time. love Mike Btw....

I am 72 and I love the way Philip Sayce always mentions his Mom and Dad. His music is a total thrill to an early 60s - 70s Rocker like myself. I am happy to say that the direction of music is in good hands for the future. We would love Philip to also be in the movies. ❤❤❤

You’re correct pluses and minuses. Well can’t really hear the minuses 😄 They both sound superb. The 335 is such a great design and light weight for stage use. Had a 60s 330 was an amazing guitar but fed back quite a bit. I’d have to position myself on stage to compensate. Thanks for the demo.

Losing my sister is the worst pain I have ever felt.

I lost my brother Labor Day 2023. He was only 47 years old. It seems like a bad dream yet it hurts so much. I have my good days but, have my hardest days. I cry so much missing my brother. Never in a million years did I ever think I would lose my brother so soon. To see everything what he went through. I never want anyone to go through that pain. He lost his life from Cirrhosis of the liver. Something I wished he had the courage to get help. Now, I only have his memories of all the good times we shared. The holidays are going to be hard. Thank you for sharing your story. It has helped me starting to heal 🙏💙🙏

I lost my little brother Nathan many years ago when he was just six years old. At the time I was going through quite a bit as my family was very broken and torn for a few years even before his death. Are used to wonder why my mother had so many anger issues. Now that I’ve gotten older I realize it was largely because of her second husband. It was only a short period of time after she got custody of me that my little brother lost his life due to a traffic accident. We had the same father but different mothers and I think at the time my biological mom didn’t really know how to comfort me since she had her own issues. The loss of my adorable little brother what is the weight the likes of which I had never felt. As an introvert, it completely crushed every safety wall I had built up over time, leaving me completely exposed and alone more than ever. For several weeks I asked my creator to bring him back or let me speak to him. Overtime I realized that unanswered prayers are not a bad thing. It allowed my anger, sadness, and depression to dissipate without judgment. It also tempered my questions of “why” to the point where I could at least have a productive life. Over 30 years later, I still deal with occasional depression and sadness of that time. So in someways I’m still in the healing process, but my desire to live for those who are no longer here drives me forward. The sadness I have now is out of a love that cradles me with hope and joy.

Just wondering, did the 1977 Deluxe originally have mini-humbuckers? Also, it looks like the body is a single slab, not a pancake body, like other Gibsons from that era. What really improves those guitars is swapping out the volume and tone pots - 1970s Gibsons tend to have very ineffective controls; if you get something else, you can get an endless variety of sounds simply by playing with the dials.

First year Les Pauls aren't crazy expensive or sought after in the scheme Les Pauls. Also, his has been modified, since the factory neck angle and factory wraparound trapeze tailpiece didn't work correctly together.

I lost my brother in 2019. I was 24 and he was 22. He was born with an incredibly rare heart condition. One that wasn’t genetic, but by a spontaneous mutation. His death was sudden, and was related to an accident during surgery. His passing has been hard on me. It’s the worst heartbreak I’ve experienced. It felt like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. At times, it still feels like this. My brother was my best friend and it hurts that I didn’t get to say goodbye to him. I just want to say thank you. This video has really helped me. It’s incredibly reassuring, and it validates everything I’ve been feeling. I’m in therapy and working on my grief as best as I can.

Writing great tunes is a far more useful skill than playing guitar fast

I first heard of Mike Campbell when I heard Don Henley talk about how he wrote “the boys of Summer”… which happens to be one of my very favorite songs of all time. He said that Tom Petty had turned down the music and Mike offered it to him. From then on, I was always in awe of how someone could write such a beautiful musical piece. It reminds me of how Don Felder wrote the music to Hotel California which happens to be the Eagles greatest song. I think I’ve always loved Tom Petty and I felt like their music was simple, but powerful and I don’t mean that as a put down… It’s a compliment. Their music is so tight and like mike says ultimately….“Is the song that counts“.

I lost my dear older brother in December 2021 to suicide. He was my best friend, a second Dad, integrated into every fabric of my life. All of my memories are with him and we had so many plans to conquer life together. I miss him so much it feels like I’m being swallowed by my grief. I hardly recognize myself some days. Trying like hell not to be a secondary tragedy to my family in terms of living a small sad life but I’m still lost many days. Thank you for putting this together.

Someone beat up my brother to dead in December 2022 and I still can’t believe my younger brother is gone. Am so lost cos I was not in the best place with my younger brother 2 months before he passed. Just too complicated and am so sorry I never put down my younger brother to talk things over with.

Thx ! Great interview. I love his relation ship with the word his muse. Songs can volunteer themselves. It just comes to you. Being in the right state of mime ,true to your craft is important. Simplicity is the key,, not easy to do at times. Write it down or record it when it’s fresh. Keeping it fresh is the hard part. This was inspiring thanks again.

That must be a trait with 52/53 standards , maybe it was intended as a jazz style instrument? My lead pick up is weaker than the neck , how ever my special has a hot bridge and weak neck ??? Huh ???

My favourites are the Guild Starfire and the Epiphone Casino, but the Gretsch didn't sound as thin as i expected with that Blackface amp, they actually sound quite nice for a rhythmic part, at least in the bridge pickup, the Gibson sounded very much mid focused for my taste, even if the Vibrolux helps it to not sound like full mud.

I bought a black LP Std and it had those same horrifying Sperzal locking tuners. The pickguard was off, the nut was black along with the poker chip. Yuckkkk anyway I’m happy to say it’s back to looking like a real LP. Only thing different is I put Graph Tech Ratio tuners. NON Locking. I didn’t have the Klusons anyway so… yeah that guitar is a beast now.

Thanks for this, I really needed to hear this. I lost my brother a few months ago, he was 22 and I’m 26 and he spent the last 4 months of his life fighting in hospital. Last night I had a dream about him, he’d just come home from the hospital and we hugged. It was as if I knew that something had happened but I wasn’t sure what it was. I was sad but also so happy and grateful that he’d come back home and we both started to cry, until I woke up, crying. Today was not a good day, but in a way it was, because last night we met

I have Seymour Duncans dynos in one duo jet and had another duo jet with T-armonds. Duncans are way beefier and somewhat easier to play on. I think they are closer to the original dynasonics we can hear in this video. I purchased recently a 6120 t-55 vintage select with t-armonds and I am thinking of replacing them with Duncans
